Why Gandhi Chose Salt to Challenge British Rule

Salt seemed like an unlikely issue around which to challenge the British Empire. Gandhi chose it because the salt laws offered something larger political grievances often could not: a simple, familiar law that ordinary Indians could understand and openly defy.
